OK! To begin with, you've landed on a website called
oregonsbythesea.com. I'll stay with you so all you have to do
is click away and you'll find out a whole bunch of stuff about Brookings
and about Oregon along with some stuff you probably could have lived without.
As
a former school teacher turned Realtor, Karl Johnson has designed this
deliberately “homemade” website to be a friendly, informative,
easy-to-follow guide to a lot of general information about Oregon and
particularly the Brookings-Harbor area.
Since
Karl is a real estate broker, he also hopes the site will bring some
business his way. On the other hand, buying property is certainly
not a requirement for stopping by for a visit - either to Brookings or to this website.
Obviously,
this site is not professionally designed. In fact, some very hurtful
people have said it's very poorly designed. Whatever...
Anyway, to make the site
work, Karl uses me to help people click their way through the pages and,
because most people seem to like dogs better than they like real estate brokers, he
also uses his
cocker spaniel here and there
just to hold your attention. The dog’s name is Willy and, in my opinion, he seems to spend most of his day either sleeping or chewing on some stuffed
toy. Frankly, I don't see why we need him.
Karl
has been a broker since 1978 and he's been with Seashore Real Estate since
it first opened its doors about 28 years ago. As you can tell from
the picture, he’s obviously not a “spring chicken”.
On the other hand, with over thirty years experience in real
estate, he has learned tons of stuff about what people should watch out
for when they buy or sell property. You
know, things like the new parts and the old parts of town and the
locations where the weather is better and where the wells don't run dry
and where septic tanks work best and where the taxes are lower and stuff
you can or can't do under Oregon's land-use laws.
Most
of the people who look at property here are coming from out of state and,
naturally, Brookings isn't for all of them. Also, real estate is just
too big an investment to make without knowing at least most of the pros
and cons about the property and the area. That's why Karl gives the
negative side as well as what's really great about living here. This
policy has definitely cost him a few sales over the years. It's also
gained some pretty good friendships!
Anyway,
thanks for stopping by and we
hope you enjoy the site.
